Ban Spam, Say Americans
(CPOD) Jul. 16, 2003 - Americans support laws against unsolicited e-mail, according to a poll by Harris Interactive. 79 per cent of respondents favour legal action against spam.
Several anti-spam proposals are being considered in the United States Congress, and a definite measure is expected later this year. In the state of Virginia, jail time is being sought for senders of unsolicited e-mail.
Spam currently accounts for 46 per cent of all e-mail messages sent worldwide, and costs billions of U.S. dollars to companies each year in lost productivity. The European Union (EU) is also considering a ban on unwanted messages.
