ANC Holds Lead In South Africa

(CPOD) Jul. 4, 2003 - The African National Congress (ANC) continues to be the top political force in South Africa, according to a poll by Markinor released by SABC. 60 per cent of respondents will vote for the ANC in a general election.

Support for the ruling party has remained steady. In the 1999 suffrage, the ANC got 66.4 per cent of the vote, and 266 members in the 400-seat National Assembly. Thabo Mbeki was then chosen to replace Nelson Mandela as South Africa's president.

The next general election in South Africa will take place in 2004.
