Americans Split On Intelligence, Support Iraqi War

August 03, 2003

(CPOD) Aug. 3, 2003 - The use of intelligence to justify the war in Iraq continues to sway public opinion towards George W. Bush, according to a poll by NBC and the Wall Street Journal. 48 per cent of respondents believe the American president gave accurate information, while 47 per cent believe he exaggerated.

Bush was criticized last month, when information included in the State of the Union address was deemed faulty. The paragraph in question regarded Iraq's alleged acquisition of uranium from Africa.

Despite their doubts on sources, most Americans back the current military effort. 69 per cent of respondents support the president's decision to topple the regime of Saddam Hussein.
