Americans Hope For Economic Recovery
(CPOD) May 8, 2003 - Support for George W. Bush has dropped slightly, but Americans remain hopeful about their financial status, according to a poll by the Pew Research Centre for the People and the Press. 65 per cent of respondents approve of the president's performance, a seven per cent drop since April.
Bush's recent proposals on tax cuts and employment appear to have boosted confidence. 43 per cent of respondents say economic conditions in the United States will improve, a 13 per cent improvement since January 2003.
This week, Republican senators finalized a $430 billion U.S. tax cut, which includes $20 million U.S. in emergency aid to states.
