Americans Accept Tax Relief, But Have Other Priorities

May 30, 2003

(CPOD) May 30, 2003 - Americans support tax cuts, but believe money could be spent on other pressing concerns in the United States, according to a poll by CNN and Time. 45 per cent of respondents say they support the $350 billion U.S. relief signed by George W. Bush.

The package includes provisions to give states $20 billion U.S. in federal aid. The president's original proposal called for a $726 billion U.S. tax cut.

Despite welcoming the idea, 72 per cent of respondents say the money could have been spent in the country's health care system. Almost half of respondents favoured an investment on homeland security.
