Alabama Primary: Anything Can Happen
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Voting intention polls conducted in the Yellowhammer State have not provided a clear frontrunner for either party in today’s United States presidential primary.
In the four surveys of Republican Party voters, Arizona senator John McCain sits in first place, but a poll by SurveyUSA placed former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee just two percentage points behind. Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney reached 20 per cent in a study by Rasmussen Reports, while Texas congressman Ron Paul is in single digits.
In the five surveys of Democratic Party voters, New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and Illinois senator Barack Obama are separated by five points or less. Rodham Clinton leads in three of the polls, while Obama is ahead in one of them.
In all, 21 states will hold Republican primaries or caucuses today, choosing 41 per cent of all delegates. The Democratic primaries or caucuses will be held in 22 states, American Samoa and "Democrats Abroad", choosing 52 per cent of all pledged delegates.
