Kerry Closer To Bush In Pennsylvania

(CPOD) Oct. 6, 2004 - George W. Bush and Dick Cheney could carry the state of Pennsylvania in the 2004 United States presidential election, according to a poll by Strategic Vision. 48 per cent of respondents would vote for the Republican incumbents, while 45 per cent would support the Democratic ticket of John Kerry and John Edwards.

Independent candidate Ralph Nader and running mate Peter Camejo garner the support of one per cent of respondents, while six per cent are undecided. The election is scheduled for Nov. 2.

Support for the Republicans dropped by one per cent since mid-September, while backing for the Democrats increased by one per cent. Four weeks ago, the Bush/Cheney ticket held a two per cent advantage over the Kerry/Edwards pairing.

The state's 23 electoral votes went to Democrat Al Gore in 2000, with 51 per cent of the vote. The last Republican to carry Pennsylvania was George H. Bush in 1988.
