(CPOD) Oct. 4, 2004 - George W. Bush could carry the state of Tennessee in the 2004 United States presidential election, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 49 per cent of respondents would vote for the Republican incumbent, while 43 per cent would support Democratic nominee John Kerry.
Three per cent of respondents would vote for another candidate, while five per cent are undecided. The election is scheduled for Nov. 2.
Support for Bush remained stable since June, while backing for Kerry increased by two per cent.
Bush carried the state's 11 electoral votes in 2000, defeating Democrat Al Gore—a Tennessee native—by less than 79,000 ballots. Tennessee has picked the eventual White House dweller in each of the last nine presidential elections.
