In Arkansas, Bush Takes First Place

Abstract: (CPOD) Oct. 4, 2004 - George W. Bush could carry the state of Arkansas in the 2004 United States presidential election, according to a poll by SurveyUSA released by KTHV. 53 per cent of respondents would vote for the Republican incumbent, while 44 per cent would support Democratic nominee John Kerry.

Bush could carry the state of Arkansas in the 2004 United States presidential election, according to a poll by SurveyUSA released by KTHV. 53 per cent of respondents would vote for the Republican incumbent, while 44 per cent would support Democratic nominee John Kerry.

Four per cent of respondents would either vote for another candidate or are undecided. The election is scheduled for Nov. 2.

Backing for Bush increased by five per cent since August, while support for Kerry dropped by three per cent. In July, the Republican held a two per cent lead over the Democrat.

Jimmy Carter in 1976—and former governor Bill Clinton in 1992 and 1996—are the only Democrats to carry Arkansas in a presidential election since 1968. Bush won the state's six electoral votes in 2000, with 51.3 per cent of all cast ballots.
