Hawaii: Obama 68%, McCain 27%

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Democrat Barack Obama could carry the Aloha State in this year’s United States presidential election, according to a poll by the Rasmussen Reports. 68 per cent of respondents in Hawaii would vote for the Illinois senator, while 27 per cent would back Republican Arizona senator John McCain.

Five per cent of respondents are undecided, or would vote for other contenders.

In 2004, Democrat John Kerry carried Hawaii’s four electoral votes, with 54 per cent of all cast ballots. Richard Nixon in 1972 and Ronald Reagan in 1984 are the only Republicans who have carried the Aloha State in the past 12 presidential contests.

U.S. president George W. Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The U.S. presidential election is scheduled for Nov. 4.
