Argentinean Majority Picks Obama for U.S.
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Many people in Argentina would like Barack Obama to win this year’s presidential election in the United States, according to a poll by Ibarómetro. 53.2 per cent of respondents prefer the Democratic candidate, while only 8.8 per cent select Republican contender John McCain.
Obama became the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee on Aug. 28, while McCain accepted the Republican Party’s nomination on Sept. 4.
In late August, Dan Restrepo, Obama’s advisor for Latin American issues, assured that the Democratic candidate "is truly interested in the region," and that he believes that "whatever is good for Latin America is good for the United States."
U.S. president George W. Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The U.S. presidential election is scheduled for Nov. 4.
