American lawmakers are currently studying a bill that would create a university for public servants: the United States Public Service Academy. The institution would be inspired in military academies like West Point.

On Jul. 8, Dave R. Palmer, a former West Point superintendent, called for Congress to support the bill, saying, "Our nation is in dire need of an infusion of leadership in the public sector. Just as the challenges of the 19th century led to the creation of West Point and the Naval Academy, and those of the 20th century to the Air Force Academy, the challenges of the 21st century point to the need for a ‘civilian West Point’ to promote public service and to train civilian leaders marked by character and competence."
