Rhode Island: Obama 58%, McCain 39%

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Democrat Barack Obama could carry the Ocean State in this year’s United States presidential election, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 58 per cent of respondents would vote for the Illinois senator, while 39 per cent would back Arizona senator John McCain.

In a survey by Brown University, Obama has a 20-point lead over McCain.

In 2004, Democrat John Kerry carried Rhode Island’s four electoral votes, with 60 per cent of all cast ballots. No Republican has won the Ocean State since Ronald Reagan in 1984.

U.S. president George W. Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The next United States presidential election is scheduled for Nov. 4.
