Arkansas: McCain 47%, Obama 37%
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Republican John McCain holds the lead in Arkansas, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 47 per cent of respondents in the Natural State would support the Arizona senator in this year’s United States presidential election, while 37 per cent would back Illinois senator Barack Obama.
16 per cent of respondents would vote for other candidates, or remain undecided.
In 2004, Republican George W. Bush won the Natural State’s six electoral votes, with 54 per cent of the vote. Jimmy Carter in 1976—and former governor Bill Clinton in 1992 and 1996—are the only Democrats to carry Arkansas in a presidential election since 1968.
Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The U.S. presidential election is scheduled for Nov. 4.
