Iowa Tightly Contested in U.S. Election
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - This year’s United States presidential election could be very close in Iowa, according a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 44 per cent of respondents would vote for Democratic Illinois senator Barack Obama, while 42 per cent would back Republican Arizona senator John McCain.
In a separate contest, McCain holds a three-point edge over New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.
In 2004, Republican George W. Bush carried Iowa’s seven electoral votes, with 50 per cent of all cast ballots. No GOP nominee had carried the Hawkeye State since Ronald Reagan in 1984.
Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The U.S. presidential election is scheduled for Nov. 4.
