Obama Could Carry Oregon in 2008
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Barack Obama is the most popular United States presidential contender in the Beaver State, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 52 per cent of respondents in Oregon would support the Democratic Illinois senator, while 38 per cent would vote for Republican Arizona senator John McCain.
In a separate contest, Democratic New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton leads McCain by six points.
In 2004, Democrat John Kerry won Oregon’s seven electoral votes, with 51 per cent of the vote. The last Republican to carry the Beaver State in a U.S. presidential election was Ronald Reagan in 1984.
Incumbent George W. Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The U.S. presidential election is scheduled for Nov. 4.
