Slight Advantage for McCain in Virginia
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Republican John McCain is the top United States presidential hopeful in the Old Dominion State, according a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 47 per cent of respondents would back the Arizona senator in head-to-head contests against two prospective Democratic rivals.
McCain holds a three-point edge over Illinois senator Barack Obama, and a six-point lead over New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.
In 2004, Republican George W. Bush carried Virginia’s 13 electoral votes, with 54 per cent of all cast ballots. No Democrat has carried the Old Dominion State since Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964.
Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The U.S. presidential election is scheduled for Nov. 4.
