McCain Leads Both Democrats in North Carolina

Abstract: (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Republican John McCain is holding on to the lead in the Tar Heel State, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. At least 43 per cent of respondents in North Carolina would vote for the Arizona senator in head-to-head United States presidential contests against two prospective Democratic rivals.

At least 43 per cent of respondents in North Carolina would vote for the Arizona senator in head-to-head United States presidential contests against two prospective Democratic rivals.

McCain holds a three-point lead over both Illinois senator Barack Obama and New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.

In 2004, Republican George W. Bush won the Tar Heel State’s 15 electoral votes, with 56 per cent of all cast ballots. No Democrat has carried North Carolina since Jimmy Carter in 1976.

Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The U.S. presidential election is scheduled for Nov. 4.
