Canadians Suffering Due to High Gas Prices
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Many adults in Canada are concerned about fuel costs, according to a poll by Angus Reid Strategies. 56 per cent of respondents say recent price increases in gasoline have caused a financial hardship for them or others in their household.
In May 2007, a survey of 60 Canadian communities released by MJ Ervin & Associates found that the average cost for a litre of regular gas in the country stood at $1.15 Cdn., a two-year high. Earlier this month, the average cost was $1.10 Cdn.
Last month, Canadian finance minister Jim Flaherty said the federal administration cannot do much to lower the cost of gasoline, adding, "This is a market commodity and the market will determine the price. It’s not something for governments to determine."
