Democrats Ahead of McCain Golden State
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Democrat Barack Obama is the top United States presidential contender in the Golden State, according to a poll by the Public Policy Institute of California. 49 per cent of respondents would back the Illinois senator in this year’s election, while 40 per cent would vote for Republican Arizona senator John McCain.
In a separate contest, McCain trails New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton by three points.
In 2004, Democrat John Kerry carried the Golden State’s 55 electoral votes, with 55 per cent of all cast ballots. The last Republican to win California in a presidential election was George H. Bush in 1988.
U.S. president George W. Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The U.S. presidential election is scheduled for Nov. 4.
