Giuliani Leads Democrats in Ohio
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Many adults in the Buckeye State would vote for Republican Rudy Giuliani in the 2008 United States presidential election, according to a poll by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. 47 per cent of respondents in Ohio would support the former New York City mayor, while 43 per cent would back Democratic New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Giuliani also holds an eight-point lead over former U.S. vice-president Al Gore, and a one-point edge over Illinois senator Barack Obama. In other match-ups, Arizona senator John McCain leads Rodham Clinton by one point and Gore by three points, but trails Obama by three points. The three Democratic presidential hopefuls hold the upper hand in contests against actor and former Tennessee senator Fred Thompson.
In 2004, Republican George W. Bush carried Ohio's 20 electoral votes, with 51 per cent of the vote. The Buckeye State has supported the eventual president in every U.S. election since 1964.
Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The next United States presidential election is scheduled for November 2008.
