French Satisfied with Appointed Cabinet
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Many people in France are pleased with their new national government, according to a poll by OpinionWay published by Le Journal du Dimanche. 69 per cent of respondents are satisfied with the composition of prime minister François Fillion's cabinet.
On May 6, Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) candidate and former interior minister Nicolas Sarkozy won the presidential run-off with 53.06 per cent of the vote. Sarkozy was sworn in on May 16.
On May 17, Sarkozy appointed François Fillon as his prime minister. Fillon had been his adviser in the UMP for over two years, and was also Sarkozy's presidential campaign leader. France's 15-member cabinet features seven women and former health minister and Socialist Party (PS) member Bernard Kouchner as foreign minister
On May 23, Fillon—an amateur race car driver—said he would introduce aggressive reforms during his tenure in order to boost France's economy, declaring, "France is a Formula One car. We need to drive it at full capacity to beat the international competition, while looking after its engine and making sure it doesn't go off the road."
