Ohio Could Remain Blue in 2008 U.S. Ballot

March 23, 2007

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton is the top United States presidential contender in Ohio, according to a poll by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. 46 per cent of respondents in the Buckeye State would vote for the New York senator in 2008, while 43 per cent would vote for former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Rodham Clinton also holds a four-point lead over Arizona senator John McCain, and a 19-point advantage over former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney.

In other match-ups, former North Carolina senator John Edwards is almost tied with Giuliani, leads McCain by eight points, and Romney by 27 points. Illinois senator Barack Obama is tied with Giuliani, and holds the upper hand against McCain and Romney.

In 2004, Republican George W. Bush carried Ohio's 20 electoral votes, with 51 per cent of the vote. The Buckeye State has supported the eventual president in every U.S. election since 1964.

Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The next United States presidential election is scheduled for November 2008.
