Bush Drops One Point in Three U.S. Polls

January 14, 2007

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Fewer American adults are expressing satisfaction with George W. Bush, according to three recent public opinion polls. In a survey by Gallup released by USA Today, 37 per cent of respondents approve of the president's performance, down one point since mid-December.

A study by Ipsos-Public Affairs released by the Associated Press gives Bush a 32 per cent approval rating. In a study by CBS News, 30 per cent of respondents express a positive opinion about the way the president is handling his job. Bush's numbers in the Ipsos-Public Affairs and CBS News polls are the lowest of his tenure.

Bush—a Republican—earned a second four-year term in the November 2004 presidential election. Yesterday in his weekly radio address, Bush discussed his new strategy for the coalition effort, saying, "Only the Iraqis can end the sectarian violence and secure their people. Their leaders understand this, and they are stepping forward to do it. But they need our help, and it is in our interests to provide that help."
