Florida Gives Jeb Bush Positive Grades
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Florida governor Jeb Bush will leave office with good numbers, according to a poll by SurveyUSA released by WFLA. 53 per cent of respondents in the Sunshine State give Bush a grade of A or B for his overall performance.
Jeb Bush—a Republican—was first elected governor in November 1998. In 2002, he defeated Democrat Bill McBride with 56 per cent of the vote. Bush was ineligible to seek a third consecutive term in office. On Nov. 7, Republican candidate Charlie Crist defeated Democratic contender Jim Davis with 52.2 per cent of the vote. Crist will supplant Bush on Jan. 2, 2007.
During his tenure, Jeb Bush signed legislation to protect the Florida Everglades and the Jessica Lunsford Act, which contemplates a minimum sentence of 25 years in jail for child abuse. Earlier this month, the governor suspended all pending executions in Florida after a particular execution required a second injection of chemicals.
In November 2004, Jeb Bush dismissed being interested in becoming president in 2008. To this day, he has not established a political action committee.
