Giuliani Leads Gore, Rodham Clinton for 2008
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Republican Rudy Giuliani holds the upper hand in a United States presidential contest against Democrat Al Gore, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 46 per cent of respondents would vote for the former New York City mayor, while 43 per cent would support the former vice-president.
In a contest against Democratic New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Giuliani holds a four-point advantage.
Giuliani garnered national and international attention in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and has formed a political action committee called Solutions America.
On Dec. 19, Giuliani discussed his chances in a presidential election, saying, "Well, we're exploring it. That's what this committee is for: To take a look at the viability of it. Can you do it? Is your message the right message? Do people need you at this particular time? I think the thing that I can do is to supply leadership and of course then you have to find out, can you get the support, can you get the help."
In American elections, candidates require 270 votes in the Electoral College to win the White House. In November 2004, Republican George W. Bush earned a second term after securing 286 electoral votes from 31 states. Kerry received 252 electoral votes from 19 states and the District of Columbia.
Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The next presidential election is scheduled for November 2008.
