Mixed Reviews for Bush in the United States
- Public support for George W. Bush appears to have stabilized in the U.S., according to a poll by Opinion Research Corporation released by CNN. 41 per cent of respondents approve of the president's performance, down one point since late August.
In a study by Zogby International, 37 per cent of respondents express a positive opinion of Bush's performance, up three points since mid-August.
Bush—a Republican—earned a second four-year term in the November 2004 presidential election. Yesterday in his weekly radio address, Bush discussed the war on terrorism, saying, "America is taking the side of democratic leaders and reformers and supporting the voices of tolerance and moderation across the Middle East. By advancing freedom and democracy as the great alternative to repression and radicalism, and by supporting young democracies like Iraq, we are helping to bring a brighter future to this region—and that will make America and the world more secure."
American voters will renew the House of Representatives and one-third of the Senate on Nov. 7.
