Nebraska Governor: Heineman 70%, Hahn 22%

October 24, 2006

- Dave Heineman could earn a full term as Nebraska's governor, according to the latest poll by Rasmussen Reports. 70 per cent of respondents in the Cornhusker State would vote for the Republican incumbent, while 22 per cent would support Democrat David Hahn.

Heineman took over as governor in January 2005, when Mike Johanns resigned to become the United States agriculture secretary. Heineman won the May 9 Republican primary with 49 per cent of the vote, defeating U.S. congressman Tom Osborne and financial consultant Dave Nabity.

Hahn is the founder of New Digital Group, a company that provides web services to community and college newspapers. He launched his candidacy in December 2005.

The gubernatorial election is scheduled for Nov. 7. Since 1961, the Cornhusker State has had five Republican and four Democratic heads of government.
