Harper’s Conservatives at 41% in Canada
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Many Canadian adults would support the governing Conservative party in the next federal election, according to a poll by Environics Research Group. 41 per cent of respondents would vote for the Tories in the next House of Commons ballot.
The Liberal party is second with 22 per cent, followed by the New Democratic Party (NDP) with 21 per cent, the Bloc Québécois with 10 per cent, and the Green party with five per cent.
Canadians renewed the House of Commons on Jan. 23. The Conservative party—led by Stephen Harper—received 36.3 per cent of the vote, and secured 124 seats in the 308-member lower house. Harper, who was sworn in on Feb. 6, leads a minority administration after more than 12 years of government by the Liberal party.
On Apr. 12, Harper discussed his environmental policies, saying, "The government has terminated a small number of programs that were set to expire. Obviously, we are going to wind up programs that don't get results and move things toward a program that is focused not just on spending money, but also on achieving some objectives."
