(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Pierre Trudeau is still the favourite former head of government for Canadians, according to a poll by Angus Reid Strategies. 38 per cent of respondents think Trudeau has been Canada’s best prime minister since 1968, up five points since October.

Three-in-Ten Americans Approve of Bush
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Fewer adults in the United States are satisfied with George W. Bush, according to a poll by Opinion Research Corporation released by CNN. 30 per cent of respondents approve of their president’s performance, down two points since early June.

Louisiana: McCain 52%, Obama 36%
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Republican John McCain holds the upper hand in the Pelican State, according to a poll by Southern Media & Opinion Research. 52 per cent of respondents in Louisiana would vote for the Arizona senator in this year’s United States presidential election, while 36 per cent would support Illinois senator Barack Obama.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Republican John McCain is ahead of Democrat Barack Obama in the Tar Heel State, according to a poll by Public Policy Polling. 45 per cent of respondents in North Carolina would vote for the Arizona senator in this year’s United States presidential election, while 41 per cent would back the Illinois senator.

New Zealanders Still Flocking to National
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - More people in New Zealand are siding with the opposition National party before this year’s legislative ballot, according to a poll by DigiPoll published in the New Zealand Herald. 54.9 per cent of respondents would vote for the conservative party in the next election to the House of Representatives, up 3.4 points since May.

Spanish Political Parties are Neck-and-Neck
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Spain’s governing Socialist Worker’s Party (PSOE) and the opposition Popular Party (PP) are practically tied, according to a poll by Instituto Opina released by Cadena Ser. 42 per cent of respondents would support PSOE in the next legislative election, while 41 per cent would vote for the PP.

Britons Back Use of Security Cameras, DNA
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The vast majority of people in Britain support the country’s broad use of surveillance cameras, according to a poll by YouGov published in The Economist. 74 per cent of respondents believe it is a good thing that Britain has more closed circuit TV (CCTV) cameras than any other country, used to monitor streets, subway stations, shopping centres, and other premises.

Funes Loses Ground in Salvadoran Race
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The early frontrunner in El Salvador’s presidential election has lost popularity, according to a poll by LPG Datos published in La Prensa Gráfica. 28.4 per cent of respondents would vote for Mauricio Funes of the left-leaning Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) in the 2009 ballot, down 5.2 points since April.

Few South Africans Welcome Zimbabwe Refugees
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Few people in South Africa think the government should allow refugees fleeing neighbouring Zimbabwe to stay in the country, according to a poll by TNS Research Surveys. Only 29 per cent of respondents agree with the idea.
