Iowa: Obama 55%, McCain 40%

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Democrat Barack Obama is ahead in the Hawkeye State, according to a poll by Opinion Research Corporation. 55 per cent of respondents in Iowa would vote for the Illinois senator in this year’s United States presidential election, while 40 per cent would support Arizona senator John McCain.

In a survey by the University of Iowa, Obama holds a seven-point lead over McCain.

In 2004, Republican George W. Bush carried Iowa’s seven electoral votes, with 50 per cent of all cast ballots. No GOP nominee had carried the Hawkeye State since Ronald Reagan in 1984.

Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The U.S. presidential election is scheduled for Nov. 4.
