Wisconsin U.S. Senate: Kohl 64%, Lorge 25%
- Herb Kohl could earn a new term as one of Wisconsin's representatives to the United States Senate, according to the latest poll by Rasmussen Reports. 64 per cent of respondents would vote for the incumbent Democrat, while 25 per cent would support Republican Robert Gerald Lorge.
A late October survey by the University of Wisconsin gave Kohl a 55-point advantage over Lorge.
Kohl has served in the U.S. Senate since 1988. In the 2000 election, the Democrat defeated Republican John Gillespie with 62 per cent of the vote. Kohl is also the owner of the National Basketball Association (NBA) Milwaukee Bucks.
Lorge is a lawyer from Bear Creek. He was the only Republican to file before the Jul. 11 deadline. Other prospective contenders, including state senator Glenn Grothman and former governor Tommy Thompson, decided not to challenge Kohl.
No Republican has represented Wisconsin in the U.S. Senate since Bob Casten in 1993. The election is scheduled for Nov. 7.
