(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Democrat Barack Obama is ahead in the Hawkeye State, according to a poll by Opinion Research Corporation. 55 per cent of respondents in Iowa would vote for the Illinois senator in this year’s United States presidential election, while 40 per cent would support Arizona senator John McCain.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government has lost a significant amount of public support over the past two months, according to a poll by the Hong Kong University Public Opinion Programme. 45.2 per cent of respondents trust the administration, down 16.7 points since June.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Democrat Barack Obama holds a slight advantage in North Dakota, according to a poll by DFM Research. 43 per cent of respondents in the Peace Garden State would vote for the Illinois senator in this year’s United States presidential election, while 40 per cent would back Arizona senator John McCain.

Livni Better than Mofaz for Israel’s Kadima
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The governing Kadima party of Israel would fare better in the next election with foreign minister Tzipi Livni as its leader, according to a poll by Teleseker published in Maariv. A prospective tally of seats shows that a Livni-led Kadima would garner 23 seats in the next ballot, second to Likud with 31 mandates.

Danish Liberals Drop to Second Place
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Denmark’s governing party has been overtaken by its main rival, according to a poll by Megafon released by TV2. 25.1 per cent of respondents would vote for the Social Democracy in Denmark (SD), while 24.7 per cent would support the ruling Left, Liberal Party of Denmark (V) in the next general election.

We Are Not European Citizens, Say French
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The majority of people in France still do not consider themselves as European citizens, according to a poll by TNS Sofres and CIDEM. 38 per cent of respondents think of themselves as citizens of Europe—up nine points since December 2001—while 62 per cent do not.

Top Parties Virtually Tied in Norway
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The governing Labour Party (DNA) is barely clinging to first place in Norway, according to a poll by TNS Gallup released by TV2. 30.4 per cent of respondents would vote for Labour in next year’s election, up 2.1 points since June.

Tories Have Solid Advantage in Britain
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Britain’s official opposition continues to lead by a large margin, according to a poll by YouGov published in the Daily Telegraph. 45 per cent of respondents would vote for the Conservative party in the next election to the House of Commons, unchanged since mid-August.

Germans Fear New Russian Territorial Wars
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Most people in Germany think a recent conflict between Russia and Georgia over two Georgian separatist regions could be the first in a string of similar events, according to a poll by Emnid released by N24. 60 per cent of respondents think Russia could stake further territorial claims along its borders in the near future, while 34 per cent disagree.

Americans Divided Over Outcome of Iraq War
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The views of adults in the United States on the coalition effort are shifting, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 38 per cent of respondents believe the U.S. mission in Iraq will be seen as a success in the long run, up 10 points since May.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Greece’s two main political parties are virtually even, according to a poll by Kapa Research. 29.3 per cent of respondents would vote for the governing New Democracy (ND) in the next general election, while 28.1 per cent would support the Pan-Hellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK).

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - There is no clear presidential favourite in the Buckeye State, according to a poll by Opinion Research Corporation. 47 per cent of respondents in Ohio would vote for Democratic Illinois senator Barack Obama in this year’s election, while 45 per cent would support Republican Arizona senator John McCain.

Westerners Slam Their Nations’ Economies
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - An overwhelming proportion of people in five European countries and the United States agree that their countries’ economies are in bad shape, according to a poll by Harris Interactive published in the Financial Times. More than 80 per cent of respondents in Britain, France, Italy, Spain and the U.S. say that the economy in their own nation has worsened in the past year. In Germany, 58 per cent of respondents feel the same way.
