- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The governing Civic Platform (PO) has gained momentum in Poland, according to a poll by PBS DGA published in Gazeta Wyborcza. 58 per cent of respondents would vote for the conservative PO in the next general election, up 10 points since July.

Swiss Split on Ban on Polluting Sports Cars
- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - People in Switzerland are almost evenly divided on a proposed ban on polluting off-road vehicles, sport utility vehicles and sports cars, according to a poll by Isopublic. 45 per cent of respondents would vote in favour of banning such vehicles under certain circumstances in an upcoming referendum, while 44.2 per cent would vote against.

- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Republican John McCain holds the upper hand in the Pelican State, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 55 per cent of respondents in Louisiana would vote for the Arizona senator in this year’s United States presidential election, while 40 per cent would support Illinois senator Barack Obama.

- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Democrat Barack Obama holds a double-digit lead over Republican John McCain in Connecticut, according to a poll by SurveyUSA. 54 per cent of respondents in the Constitution State would vote for the Illinois senator in this year’s United States presidential election, while 38 per cent would back the Arizona senator.

Danish Social Democrats Improve Standing
- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The Social Democracy in Denmark (SD) party is widening its lead over all other political organizations, according to a poll by Catinét Research released by Ritzau. 25.4 per cent of respondents would vote for the opposition party in the next general election, up 1.8 points since mid-August.

Palestinian Majority Opposes Death Penalty
- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) – Two-thirds of residents of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip reject the use of capital punishment, according to a poll by the Palestinian Center for Public Opinion. 66.9 per cent of respondents oppose the imposition of the death penalty in their territories.

- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The new leader of Australia’s Liberal party is more popular than his predecessor, according to a poll by Newspoll published in The Australian. 24 per cent of respondents say Michael Turnbull would be the best prime minister for the country, an eight-point improvement since early September, when Brendan Nelson was still the opposition leader.

Few Americans Back Military Action in Iran
- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Most adults in the United States believe there is no need to launch military action against Iran right now, according to a poll by CBS News and the New York Times. 61 per cent of respondents believe Iran can be contained with diplomacy, and 20 per cent believe it is not a threat to the U.S. at this time.
