(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The vast majority of people in Mexico oppose an initiative by two opposition groups to block legislative sessions, according to a poll by Parametría. 70 per cent of respondents disagree with the Broad Progressive Front (FAP) and the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD) shutting down Congress.

Most Americans Oppose Banning Handguns
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Many adults in the United States believe handguns should not be banned, according to a poll by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press. 59 per cent of respondents would oppose a law that would prohibit the sale of these weapons, up four points since last year.

Scots Assess Independence Question
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - People in Scotland hold different views on whether the area should fully separate from the United Kingdom, according to a poll by Scottish Opinion released by STV. 31 per cent of respondents think Scotland should become independent, while 43 per cent disagree. One-in-four of respondents are not sure.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Fatah is the most popular political organization in the Palestinian territories, according to a poll by Arab World for Research & Development. 30.8 per cent of respondents would vote for Fatah in the next election to the Palestinian Legislative Council.

Three-in-Five Americans Regret Iraq War
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - More adults in the United States believe their government’s decision to launch the coalition effort was a mistake, according to a poll by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. 62 per cent of respondents believe going to war with Iraq was the wrong thing for the U.S. to do, up seven points since October.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Public support for Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa has dwindled following an improvement earlier this year, according to a poll by Cedatos/Gallup. 58 per cent of respondents approve of Correa’s performance, down four points since March.

Obama Could Carry Evergreen State in 2008
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Democrat Barack Obama is ahead of Republican John McCain in Washington, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 51 per cent of respondents in the Evergreen State would vote for the Illinois senator in this year’s United States presidential election, while 40 per cent would back the Arizona senator.

A prospective tally of seats suggests that the CDA would secure 33 seats in the next legislative election, unchanged since late April.

Only nine per cent of respondents think new Russian president Dmitry Medvedev should focus on improving the bilateral relationship.

In a survey by TNS released by the Washington Post and ABC News, 31 per cent of respondents have a positive opinion of their president’s performance, down two points since mid-April.

Israelis Urge PM Olmert to Step Down
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The majority of people in Israel think Ehud Olmert should resign, according to a poll by Maagar Mochot released by Israel Radio. 62 per cent of respondents think the Israeli prime minister—currently under investigation for corruption allegations—should step down, while 32 per cent want him to should stay in his post.
