Britons Back Use of Security Cameras, DNA

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The vast majority of people in Britain support the country’s broad use of surveillance cameras, according to a poll by YouGov published in The Economist. 74 per cent of respondents believe it is a good thing that Britain has more closed circuit TV (CCTV) cameras than any other country, used to monitor streets, subway stations, shopping centres, and other premises.

Funes Loses Ground in Salvadoran Race

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The early frontrunner in El Salvador’s presidential election has lost popularity, according to a poll by LPG Datos published in La Prensa Gráfica. 28.4 per cent of respondents would vote for Mauricio Funes of the left-leaning Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) in the 2009 ballot, down 5.2 points since April.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Democrat Barack Obama holds a double-digit lead over Republican John McCain in the Empire State, according to a poll by SurveyUSA. 57 per cent of respondents in New York would support the Illinois senator in this year’s United States presidential election, while 37 per cent would back the Arizona senator.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Republican John McCain could carry the Yellowhammer State in this year’s United States presidential election, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 51 per cent of respondents in Alabama would vote for the Arizona senator, while 36 per cent would back Democratic Illinois senator Barack Obama.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The Progressive Encounter - Broad Front (EP-FA) is gaining more public backing in Uruguay, according to a poll by Factum. 46 per cent of respondents would vote for the governing coalition of left-leaning parties in the next legislative election, up four points since March.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Mariano Rajoy has gained a significant amount of popularity among Spaniards, according to a poll by Instituto Opina released by Cadena Ser. 43.3 per cent of respondents approve of Rajoy’s role as leader of the opposition Popular Party (PP), up 11.4 points since mid-June.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - More adults in the United States want to allow oil and gas drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska, according to a poll by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press. 50 per cent of respondents favour the idea, while 43 per cent are opposed.
