(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Democrat Barack Obama holds the upper hand in Massachusetts, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 53 per cent of respondents in the Bay State would vote for the Illinois senator in this year’s United States presidential election, while 33 per cent would back Republican Arizona senator John McCain.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Republican John McCain leads Democrat Barack Obama in Georgia, according to a poll by Strategic Vision. 51 per cent of respondents in the Peach State would vote for the Arizona senator in this year’s United States presidential election, while 43 per cent would support the Illinois senator.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Democrat Barack Obama is barely ahead of Republican John McCain in the Old Dominion State, according to a poll by SurveyUSA. 49 per cent of respondents in Virginia would vote for the Illinois senator in this year’s United States presidential election, while 47 per cent would back the Arizona senator.

Japanese Cabinet Fails to Regain Trust
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The Japanese government continues to disappoint most people in the country, according to a poll by Nikkei. 63 per cent of respondents disapprove of the appointed cabinet of Japanese prime minister Yasuo Fukuda, down one point since May.

Trust in Hong Kong’s Government Dwindles
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Fewer people in Hong Kong are expressing confidence in the local administration while more are finding Beijing’s central government trustworthy, according to a poll by the Hong Kong University Public Opinion Programme. 61.9 per cent of respondents trust the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government, down 4.4 points since February.

Austrians Back New SPO Leader Faymann
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Most people in Austria think transport minister Werner Faymann is the right man to lead the ruling Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPO) into the next federal election, according to a poll by OGM. 59 per cent of respondents say Faymann is a more promising candidate than current chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer.

Social Democratic Parties Even in Slovenia
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Two parties are practically tied in Slovenia, according to a poll by Ninamedia. 22.1 per cent of respondents would vote for the opposition Social Democracy (SD) in the next legislative election, while 20.6 per cent would support the governing Social Democratic Party of Slovenia (SDS).

Turkey’s Governing AKP Gets Stronger
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Turkey’s governing Justice and Development Party (AKP) gained public support last month, according to a poll by A&G Research. 43.4 per cent of respondents would vote for the AKP in the next legislative election, up 3.7 points since May.

Tory Support Continues to Grow in Britain
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Britain’s main opposition party continues to gain supporters, according to a poll by Communicate Research published in The Independent. 46 per cent of respondents would vote for the Conservative party in the next election to the House of Commons, up two points since mid-June.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Democrat Barack Obama remains ahead of Republican John McCain in the United States, according to a poll by Opinion Research Corporation released by CNN. 50 per cent of respondents would back the Illinois senator in this year’s presidential election, while 45 per cent would vote for the Arizona senator.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The ruling party continues to lead all other political organizations in the Netherlands, according to a poll by Maurice de Hond. A prospective tally suggests that the Christian-Democratic Appeal (CDA) would garner 32 seats in the next legislative election, down three since early June.

Russians Overwhelmingly Back Putin, Medvedev
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The vast majority of people in Russia are satisfied with their president and prime minister, according to a poll by the Yury Levada Analytical Center. 73 per cent of respondents approve of Dmitry Medvedev’s performance, while 83 per cent feel the same way about the work of Vladimir Putin.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Half of adults in the United States believe the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) should regulate the Internet like it does radio and television, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 49 per cent of respondents agree with the idea, while 35 per cent disagree.

Britain Divided Over Identity Cards
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Adults in Britain are split over the introduction of high-end identity cards by the government, according to a poll by YouGov published in The Economist. 48 per cent of respondents think ID cards and biometric information are a good idea, while 45 per cent believe the plan is an invasion of privacy.
