Finns Confident About Economic Slowdown
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The majority of people in Finland think their country will not be greatly affected by a global financial slowdown, according to a poll by Suomen Gallup published in Helsingin Sanomat. 66 per cent of respondents say the economic recession will bring only minor consequences to their country, while 25 per cent believe these will be severe.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The majority of people in Bolivia agree with the revised version of a new Constitution, according to a poll by Equipos MORI. 56 per cent of respondents support the changes to the new charter agreed upon by government officials and members of the opposition.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Public backing for Mexican president Felipe Calderón has slightly dwindled but remains strong, according to a poll by Buendía & Laredo published in El Universal. 57 per cent of respondents approve of the president’s performance, down three points since July.

PNM Government Condemned in Trinidad & Tobago
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Most people in Trinidad & Tobago are unhappy with the administration led by the People’s National Movement (PNM), according to a poll by the North American Caribbean Teachers Association (NACTA). 62 per cent of respondents disapprove of the current government, while 21 per cent approve of it.

Support Wanes for De Castro in The Philippines
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Vice-president Noli de Castro is losing his advantage over other potential presidential candidates in the Philippines, according to a poll by Pulse Asia. 18 per cent of respondents would vote for de Castro in next year’s elections, down four points since July.

Social Democrats Keep Gaining in Czech Republic
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The opposition Czech Social Democratic Party (CSSD) now holds a double-digit lead over the governing Civic Democratic Party (ODS), according to a poll by STEM. 37.7 per cent of respondents would vote for the CSSD in the next ballot, while 21.1 per cent would support the ODS.

Lisbon Treaty Re-Vote Would Be Tight in Ireland
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - A proposed common European Union (EU) treaty that was rejected in Ireland earlier this year would now pass by a slim margin, according to a poll by TNS mrbi published in The Irish Times. 43 per cent of respondents would ratify the so-called Lisbon Treaty, while 39 per cent would vote against it.

Canadians Ponder Repatriation of Omar Khadr
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Adults in Canada remain divided over the fate of Omar Khadr, according to a poll by Angus Reid Strategies released by the Toronto Star. 42 per cent of respondents would demand Khadr’s repatriation to face due process under Canadian Law, while 37 per cent would leave Khadr to face trial by military commission in Guantanamo Bay.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Two-thirds of adults in Britain want their government to end its military deployment in Afghanistan, according to a poll by ICM Research released by the BBC. 68 per cent of respondents think Britain should withdraw its troops from Afghanistan within the next 12 months.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Most adults in the United States want their president-elect to look beyond his own party when he assembles his cabinet, according to a poll by GfK Roper Public Affairs & Media released by the Associated Press. 73 per cent of respondents want Barack Obama to appoint some qualified Republicans to important posts in his administration.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Three opposition parties garner the backing of more than half of Swede voters, according to a poll by Sifo published in Svenska Dagbladet. 51.8 per cent of respondents would vote for the Workers’ Party - Social-Democrats (S), the Environmental Party - The Greens (MP), or the Left Party (Vp) in the next general election, down 2.5 points since October.

Ruling Smer Keeps Upper Hand in Slovakia
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The governing Direction-Social Democracy (Smer) party remains ahead in Slovakia, according to a poll by UVVM. 46.3 per cent of respondents would support Smer in the next legislative ballot, up 1.5 points since October.
