Palestinians Ponder Arab Troops in Gaza

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Although the majority of people in the Palestinian Territories would oppose the presence of Arab troops in Gaza, a significant number of them agree with their deployment, according to a poll by An-Najah National University. 54.8 per cent of respondents reject bringing Arab troops into the Gaza Strip, while 42.6 per cent would support this measure.

Memory of 1968 Massacre Alive for Mexicans

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Most people in Mexico believe the country is still haunted by the memories of a government-approved student massacre that took place in October 1968, according to a poll by Reforma. 69 per cent of respondents say Mexicans remain hurt by the events that took place in Tlatelolco, while 27 per cent say people have moved on.

Livni’s Gender is Not an Issue in Israel

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Half of Israeli adults believe gender will not be a factor in how new Kadima party leader Tzipi Livni carries her foreign and defence policies, according to the Peace Index Project by the Tami Steinmetz Center for Peace Research and the Evens Program in Mediation and Conflict Resolution of Tel Aviv University. 49 per cent of respondents say Livni’s gender will make no difference in her ability.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is increasingly popular, according to a poll by Ibope. 69 per cent of respondents say Lula’s performance has been good or very good, up 11 points since June.

Tories Would Expand Private Care, Say Canadians

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Many Canadian adults believe a majority government by the Conservative party would expand the role of private health care providers, according to a poll by Angus Reid Strategies released by the Toronto Star. 66 per cent of respondents think this situation is likely to occur if the Tories have a majority in the House of Commons after this month’s federal election.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Democrat Barack Obama has extended his lead over Republican John McCain in the United States presidential race, according to a review of 14 voting intention surveys conducted over the past 11 days. 49.3 per cent of voters would support the Illinois senator in the election, while 43.1 per cent would back the Arizona senator.
