Michigan: Obama 43%, McCain 41%
- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Democrat Barack Obama is barely ahead of Republican John McCain in the Great Lake State, according to a poll by the Detroit News. 43 per cent of respondents in Michigan would vote for the Illinois senator in this year’s United States presidential election, while 41 per cent would back the Arizona senator.

- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain are virtually tied in the Silver State, according to a poll by Research 2000. 44 per cent of respondents in Nevada would back the Illinois senator in this year’s United States presidential election, while 43 per cent would support the Arizona senator.

- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Republican John McCain is ahead of Democrat Barack Obama in Florida, according to a poll by Strategic Vision. 49 per cent of respondents in the Sunshine State would vote for the Arizona senator in this year’s United States presidential election, while 42 per cent would support the Illinois senator.

- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Democrat Barack Obama holds the upper hand in Pennsylvania, according to a poll by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. 49 per cent of respondents in the Keystone State would support the Illinois senator in this year’s United States presidential election, while 42 per cent would back Arizona senator John McCain.

- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - There is no clear presidential favourite in the Buckeye State, according to a poll by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. 44 per cent of respondents in Ohio would vote for Democratic Illinois senator Barack Obama in this year’s election, while 43 per cent would support Republican Arizona senator John McCain.

Avila Narrows Gap in Salvadoran Race
- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The race for El Salvador’s top office is becoming tighter, according to a poll by CID-Gallup. 40 per cent of respondents would vote for Mauricio Funes of the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) in next year’s ballot, down one point since May.

Pakistanis Happy with Musharraf’s Resignation
- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Most people in Pakistan reacted positively to Pervez Musharraf’s resignation earlier this month, according to a poll by Gallup Pakistan. 63 per cent of respondents are happy with the president’s departure, while 15 are unhappy and 20 per cent are indifferent.

More Ecuadorians Like Proposed Constitution
- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Support for a new constitution has increased in Ecuador but it is still not enough to secure its ratification, according to a poll by Cedatos/Gallup. 44 per cent of respondents would vote in favour of the proposed body of law in next month’s vote, up 12 points since mid-July.

Panama Polarized on Torrijos’s Tenure
- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Panamanians are almost evenly divided on their assessment of their president’s performance, according to a poll by Dichter & Neira released by TVN Noticias and Panamá América. 49.8 per cent of respondents think Martín Torrijos has done a good or excellent job as head of state so far, while 45.3 per cent think his work has been bad or very bad.

Germans Object to Georgia Entering NATO
- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Many people in Germany oppose the prospect of Georgia becoming a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), according to a poll by Infratest-Dimap released by ARD. 58 per cent of respondents are against Georgia’s NATO membership, while 26 per cent are in favour.

Russians Want to Annex South Ossetia
- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The vast majority of people in Russia want to change the current status of Georgia’s breakaway region of South Ossetia, according to a poll by the Yuri Levada Analytical Center. 46 per cent of respondents want South Ossetia to become a part of Russia, while 34 per cent think the region should become fully independent.

National Has 11-Point Lead in New Zealand
- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Many people in New Zealand want to elect a conservative government in this year’s ballot, according to a poll by TNS released by TV3. 48 per cent of respondents would vote for the opposition National party in the next election to the House of Representatives, down one point since January.

Half of Americans OK with Current Drinking Age
- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Many adults in the United States are satisfied with their country’s current regulations for the consumption of alcohol, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 52 per cent of respondents believe the legal drinking age in the U.S. should be 21 years.
