(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Dominican president Leonel Fernández heads to tomorrow’s presidential election in the Caribbean country as the favourite, according to a poll by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research published in Diario Libre. 55 per cent of respondents would vote for the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) candidate.

Yes Side Ahead in Ireland’s EU Treaty Race
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - More people in Ireland are in favour of ratifying a new common European treaty, according to a poll by Red C published in the Sunday Business Post. 38 per cent of respondents would vote to adopt the so-called Lisbon Treaty in next month’s referendum, while 28 per cent would vote against it. A third of respondents remain undecided.

Obama Could Carry Oregon in 2008
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Barack Obama is the most popular United States presidential contender in the Beaver State, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 52 per cent of respondents in Oregon would support the Democratic Illinois senator, while 38 per cent would vote for Republican Arizona senator John McCain.

Majority in Texas Backs McCain in 2008
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Republican John McCain could carry the Lone Star State in the 2008 United States presidential election, according to a poll by Research 2000. At least 52 per cent of respondents in Texas would vote for the Arizona senator in head-to-head contests against two prospective Democratic rivals.

Kentucky to Stay Red in 2008 U.S. Ballot
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Republican John McCain holds the upper hand in Kentucky, according to a poll by Research 2000. At least 53 per cent of respondents in the Bluegrass State would vote for the Arizona senator in the 2008 United States presidential election, while 41 per cent would support Democratic New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Chile’s Bachelet Still Below 50% Mark
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The approval rating of Chilean president Michelle Bachelet remains stable, according to a poll by Adimark Gfk. 46.1 per cent of respondents are satisfied with Bachelet’s performance, practically unchanged since March. However, her disapproval rating has increased by 3.6 points.

Swedes Side with Centre-Left Parties
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Sweden’s opposition, centre-left parties are more popular than the governing centre-right coalition, according to a poll by Demoskop published in Expressen. 56.8 per cent of respondents would support the Workers’ Party - Social-Democrats (S), the Left Party (Vp) or the Environmental Party - The Greens (MP) in the next general election.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Democrat Barack Obama holds the upper hand in a United States presidential contest against Republican John McCain, according to a poll by TNS released by the Washington Post and ABC News. 51 per cent of respondents would vote for the Illinois senator this year, while 44 per cent would back the Arizona senator.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Most people in Denmark would like their country to use the common European currency, according to a poll by Greens Analyseinstitut published in Borsen. 54 per cent of respondents would vote in favour of adopting the euro in a referendum, while 42 per cent are against the idea.

Most Dutch Content with Monarchy
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The majority of people in the Netherlands are opposed to abolishing the monarchy, according to a poll by Maurice de Hond. 70 per cent of respondents think the Netherlands should remain a monarchy, while 25 per cent would prefer to establish a republic.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Most people in Finland believe their government should not construct any new nuclear facilities, according to a poll by Taloustutkimus released by YLE. 53 per cent of respondents oppose building the country’s sixth nuclear reactor, while 34 per cent support it.

At least 43 per cent of respondents in North Carolina would vote for the Arizona senator in head-to-head United States presidential contests against two prospective Democratic rivals.

Sarkozy’s Rating Falls to 36% in France
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Just over a third of adults in France believe Nicolas Sarkozy is doing a good job, according to a poll by LH2 published in Libération. 36 per cent of respondents have a positive opinion of their president’s performance, down four points since late March.
