(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Republican John McCain is ahead of Democrat Barack Obama in New Mexico, according to a poll by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research, Inc. 45 per cent of respondents would vote for the Arizona senator in this year’s United States presidential election, while 41 per cent would back the Illinois senator.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Republican John McCain is set to carry his home state in this year’s United States presidential election, according to a poll by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research, Inc. 47 per cent of respondents in the Grand Canyon State would vote for their U.S. senator, while 41 per cent would back Democratic Illinois senator Barack Obama.

Brown’s Labour Fails to Recover in Britain
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Public support for Britain’s governing Labour party has remained stagnant this month, according to a poll by Communicate Research published in The Independent. 25 per cent of respondents would vote for Labour in the next election to the House of Commons, up one point since late July.

Argentineans Question Official Inflation Data
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The inflation data released by Argentina’s Statistics Agency (INDEC) has little credibility in the South American country, according to a poll by Ibarómetro. 70.7 per cent of respondents think the data released by the government agency is not believable.

Israelis Would Back Kadima Led by Livni
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Adults in Israel would be more likely to support the governing Kadima if the party were headed by foreign minister Tzipi Livni, according to a poll by Dialog published in Haaretz. A prospective tally of seats shows that Kadima and the opposition Likud party would each get 36 seats in the legislature if Livni were Kadima’s leader.

President Sarkozy Reaches 40% in France
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - French prime minister François Fillon continues to hold better numbers than the country’s president, according to a poll by Ifop published in Le Journal du Dimanche. 51 per cent of respondents are satisfied with Fillon’s performance, while 40 per cent feel the same way about Nicolas Sarkozy’s leadership.

Dutch Side with Ruling Christian Democrats
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The Christian-Democratic Appeal (CDA) remains the single most popular party in the Netherlands, according to a poll by Maurice de Hond. A prospective tally shows that the CDA would get 33 seats in the next legislative election, down one since early August.

Two State Solution is Best for Israelis
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The vast majority of people in Israel think that the best solution to the ongoing conflict with the Palestinians is to establish a separate Palestinian state alongside Israel, according to a poll by Market Watch. 74 per cent of respondents share this view, while 14 per cent think the best way to solve the problem is by creating a bi-national state including both Israelis and Palestinians.

Afghanistan War Not Going Well, Say Americans
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Many more adults in the United States are now under the impression that the war on terror is on the wrong track, according to a poll by CBS News and the New York Times. 58 per cent of respondents say things are not going well for the U.S. in Afghanistan, the war’s main battleground, up 44 points since March 2003.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Democrat Barack Obama is virtually tied with Republican John McCain in the Granite State, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 47 per cent of respondents in New Hampshire would vote for the Illinois senator in the 2008 United States presidential election, while 46 per cent would support the Arizona senator.

Ecuadorian Constitution Might Be Ratified
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Ecuador’s proposed new constitution has gathered enough support to be approved in an upcoming referendum, according to a poll by Santiago Pérez Investigaciones y Estudios. 50 per cent of respondents would vote in favour of ratifying the new body of law, up two points since early August.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The majority of people in Spain do not think that foreign residents are taking away jobs from Spaniards, according to a poll by Sigma Dos published in El Mundo. 60 per cent of respondents agree with this view, while 37 per cent do believe that foreigners are affecting the livelihoods of Spaniards.

Berlusconi’s Coalition Remains Ahead in Italy
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Silvio Berlusconi’s coalition of right-wing parties continues to lead the left-leaning lot, according to a poll by Euromedia Research. 51.5 per cent of respondents would support the Italian People of Freedom Party (PdL), the Northern League (LN), or the Movement for Autonomy (MPA) in the next election to the Chamber of Deputies.
