(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton holds the upper hand in a United States presidential contest against Republican John McCain, according to a poll by Bloomberg and the Los Angeles Times. 47 per cent of respondents would vote for the New York senator this year, while 38 per cent would back the Arizona senator.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Public support for the Australian Labor Party (ALP) fell this month, according to a poll by Newspoll published in The Australian. 47 per cent of respondents would vote for the governing party in the next legislative election, down four points since mid-April.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Norway’s governing Labour Party (DNA) remains on top of the country’s political scene, according to a poll by Norsk Respons published in Aftenposten. 28.8 per cent of respondents would vote for Labour in the next legislative election, down 2.9 points since April.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Two-in-five Russian adults hold positive views on the team that will work under their new prime minister and former president, according to a poll by Bashkirova & Partners. 42.4 per cent of respondents think Vladimir Putin’s cabinet will be better than the previous one, while 44.2 per cent think it will be roughly the same.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Few adults in Israel believe their current head of government should remain in his post, according to a poll by the Dahaf Institute published in Yediot Ahronot. 59 per cent of respondents want Ehud Olmert to resign, while 33 per cent want him to remain as prime minister.

Americans Doubtful of Free Trade Benefits
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Many people in the United States think free trade policies have not been beneficial to their country, according to a poll by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press. 48 per cent of respondents believe commerce pacts like the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the policies of the World Trade Organization (WTO) are bad for the U.S., while 35 per cent disagree.
