(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Support for the governing Estonian Reform Party (ER) has increased recently while the main opposition party has lost ground, according to a poll by TNS Emor. 34 per cent of respondents would back the ER in the next legislative election, up four points since March.

Hungarians Shun Governing Socialists
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Most people in Hungary have turned against the governing Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP) and now support the opposition, according to a poll by Tarki. 67 per cent of decided voters would back the Hungarian Citizens Party (Fidesz) in the next legislative election, while 22 per cent would vote for the MSZP.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The Socialist Party (PS) of Portuguese prime minister Jose Socrates is the most popular political organization in the country, according to a poll by Marktest released by Diario de Noticias and TSF. 38 per cent of respondents would vote for the PS in the next general election.

Bush Approval Stays at 28% in U.S.
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Less than three-in-ten Americans offer a positive assessment of George W. Bush’s performance, according to two recent public opinion polls. In a survey by Gallup released by USA Today, 28 per cent of respondents approve of the way the American president is handling his job.

More in New Zealand Back Free Trade with China
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Support for a free trade agreement with China has increased in New Zealand, according to a poll by DigiPoll published in the New Zealand Herald. 49.1 per cent of respondents are in favour of striking a bilateral deal with the Asian country, up 4.4 points since March.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The governing Left, Liberal Party of Denmark (V) continues to lead all other political organizations in the country by a small margin, according to a poll by Megafon released by TV2. 26 per cent of respondents would vote for the centre-right party in the next general election.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The majority of people in France think their country will face major setbacks in the near future, according to a poll by CSA published in Le Parisien. 62 per cent of respondents think France will go through a serious crisis before the end of Nicolas Sarkozy’s presidential term in 2012.

Germans Would Clearly Pick Merkel Over Beck
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - If people in Germany had the choice of electing their federal chancellor directly, the vast majority would vote for incumbent Angela Merkel, according to a poll by Infratest-Dimap. 68 per cent of respondents would back the leader of the Christian-Democratic Union (CDU), while 14 per cent would choose Social Democratic Party (SPD) leader Kurt Beck.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Adults in Scotland hold differing views on their future, according to a poll by YouGov released by the Daily Telegraph. 38 per cent of respondents would vote to retain the Scottish Parliament but giving it greater powers, while 34 per cent would keep the existing legislature.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The popularity of Germany’s main conservative parties has remained stable this month, according to a poll by Forsa released by Stern and RTL. 37 per cent of respondents would back the Christian-Democratic Union (CDU) or the Bavarian Christian-Social Party (CSU) in the next election to the Federal Diet, down one point since mid-April.

(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Democrat Barack Obama leads Republican John McCain in the United States presidential race, according to a poll by Rasmussen Reports. 47 per cent of respondents would vote for the Illinois senator in this year’s election, while 44 per cent would back the Arizona senator.
