Few Canadians Expect an Economic Recovery
- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Many adults in Canada hold negative views on their country’s financial standing, according to a poll by Angus Reid Strategies. 52 per cent of respondents rate the economic conditions in Canada as poor or very poor, down 17 points since September.

Russians Back Longer Presidential Term
- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Most people in Russia agree with a proposal to extend the tenure of the head of state and the members of the lower house, according to a poll by the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center. 56 per cent of respondents agree with lengthening the presidential term from four to six years, and the State Duma’s term from four to five years.

Sarkozy, Fillon Cannot Reach 50% in France
- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - French adults are split in their assessment of Nicolas Sarkozy, according to a poll by CSA published in Le Parisien. 47 per cent of respondents have confidence in their president, while 46 per cent do not.

Dutch Political Scene Becomes Tight
- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - The Christian-Democratic Appeal (CDA) is barely ahead of the Labour Party (PvdA) in the Netherlands, according to a poll by Maurice de Hond. A prospective tally shows that the CDA would get 30 seats in the next legislative election, while the PvdA would garner 29 mandates.

No Clear Frontrunner in Romanian Election
- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Romania’s main political parties are virtually tied, according to a poll by BCS. 32.3 per cent of respondents would vote for the Democratic Liberal Party (PD-L) in this Sunday’s election, while 31.3 per cent would back the coalition of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the Conservative Party (PC).

American Majority Endorses the Death Penalty
- (Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Many adults in the United States remain in favour of the death penalty for a person convicted of murder, according to a poll by Gallup released by USA Today. 64 per cent of respondents agree with this rationale, down five points in a year.
