Dave Starr Seely of the Libertarian Party, Julian Hatch of the Desert Greens and Roger Price of the Personal Choice Party are also contending.
Orrin Hatch has served in the U.S. Senate since 1977. In the 2000 election, he defeated Democrat Scott Howell with 66 per cent of all cast ballots.
Ashdown is an Internet company executive. He was the only Democrat who filed to run against Hatch.
The election is scheduled for Nov. 7. No Democrat has represented Utah in the U.S. Senate since Hatch defeated Frank Moss in 1976.
