Wisconsin’s incumbent governor heads to Tuesday’s recall election with a six-point lead over his Democratic challenger, a new Angus Reid Public Opinion poll has found.
In the online survey of a representative sample of 524 registered voters in the Badger State, 53 per cent of decided voters say they would cast a ballot for Republican Scott Walker in the gubernatorial recall election, while 47 per cent would vote for Democrat Tom Barrett.
Walker’s main sources of support among decided voters in Wisconsin are men (57%) and respondents aged 35-to-54 (57%).
Barrett is backed by a majority of female decided voters (52%).
In addition, Walker stands to get the votes of 88 per cent of Wisconsinites who supported Republican John McCain in the 2008 United States presidential election.
Barrett has a lower retention rate, attracting 78 per cent of respondents who voted for Barack Obama in the last presidential election.

Methodology: From May 30 to June 2, 2012, Angus Reid Public Opinion conducted an online survey among 524 randomly selected Wisconsin registered voters who are Springboard America panelists. The margin of error—which measures sampling variability—is +/- 4.3%. The results have been statistically weighted according to the most current age and gender data to ensure samples representative of the entire adult population of Wisconsin. Discrepancies in or between totals are due to rounding.
