Homosexuality is not a crime under Peruvian law. Same-sex marriage is not legal in the country.
Last October, openly-gay Peruvian writer and entertainer Jaime Bayly suggested that he could run for the highest office in the next election, saying, "I will be the first homosexual Peruvian president."
Peruvian voters will elect a president and renew their Congress on Apr. 10, 2011.
