(Angus Reid Global Monitor) – More people in France are showing signs of frustration with thir main political leaders, according to a poll by LH2. 55 per cent of respondents have a negative opinion of French president Nicolas Sarkozy, up five points since April.
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) – More people in France are showing signs of frustration with thir main political leaders, according to a poll by LH2. 55 per cent of respondents have a negative opinion of French president Nicolas Sarkozy, up five points since April.
In May 2007, Sarkozy, candidate for the centre-right Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) and former interior minister, won the presidential run-off with 53.06 per cent of the vote. Sarkozy appointed François Fillon—who had been his adviser and presidential campaign leader—as prime minister. 44 per cent of respondents have a negative opinion of Fillon, up two points in a month.
On May 26, Sarkozy celebrated the opening of a French military facility in the Persian Gulf, the first base opened by France outside its own territory in more than five decades. Sarkozy declared: "The permanent French military installation in Abu Dhabi shows the responsibility that France, as a global power, agrees to assume with its closest partners, in a region that is a fault line for the whole world."
