(Angus Reid Global Monitor) – Salvadoran president Antonio Saca maintains a stable level of support, according to a poll by LPG Datos published in La Prensa Gráfica. Saca’s performance rating stands at 6.2 points, unchanged since December.

Saca—a media businessman—was elected in March 2004 as the candidate for the ruling conservative Nationalist Republican Alliance (ARENA), garnering 57.73 per cent of the vote.

On Mar. 15, ARENA candidate Rodrigo Ávila lost the presidential election to Mauricio Funes of the opposition Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN). A former broadcast journalist, Funes won the election with 51.32 per cent of all cast ballots.

ARENA had won four straight presidential elections. Saca was ineligible for a consecutive term in office. Funes will be sworn in on Jun. 1.

Immediately after the election, Saca said he would invite Funes to join a summit of Central American leaders, adding, "We will travel together so I can introduce him as the president-elect, and so that he can start [building] a relationship with all the presidents of Central America."
